A game with a lot of headlines coming in has even more headlines coming out as the Jets 4 game winning streak gets snapped and they have now lost 13 straight game to the New England Patriots.
Lots of headlines, but the biggest one was the play of Zach Wilson. He looked good early, but then as the game progressed he went back to the old Zach and just kept on turning the ball over on dumb plays. Although he had his first 300 yard passing game, he turned the ball over too much for those yards to do him any good.
The Jets look like that next young and upcoming team, but that all does not matter if you quarterback does not execute. If Zach Wilson continues to play like this and the Jets don't find a solution for this, they will be going nowhere. If you look at almost all the playoff teams, they get good and mostly great quarterback play from their guys. ZW has to pick it up and he needs to do it quick.
The game looked great early for the Jets until the game-changing controversial roughing the passer penalty call on John Franklin-Meyers. Recently, he has been very selfish with these stupid and dumb 15 yard penalties and this is what killed the Jets today, but the refs also have to calm down with this protecting the quarterback nonsense.
This is football, it isn't basketball, it isn't soccer, it's football. In football you are supposed to get hit and most of the time, you're going to get hit hard, so why does this have to be an exception for quarterbacks? The refs called the flag on JFM as not a late hit on Jones, but too hard of a hit on Jones which is one of the more outrageous calls I've seen.
First of all, it takes away a pick-six for Michael Carter II, it continues the drive for the Patriots, but again at the end of the day, THIS IS FOOTBALL, and these calls are ruining what the game is all about. NFL officiating has to get together and discuss this because players shouldn't have to change the way they play because of this and not only is it costing the Jets games but lots of other teams around the league as well.
The Jets have their fair share of excuses on the offensive side and the defense balled out today, but you can't expect the stellar defense to bail out the offense every time. The first game without their upcoming star running back Breece Hall, and arguably best lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker headlined the injuries and also no WR1 Corey Davis.
Obviously, it's not ideal the Jets lost this game and especially with the Bills coming to town next week, but look at the bright side. Nobody and I mean nobody had this team being over .500 going into the bye week and look at that, this team will be either 6-3 or 5-4 going into the rest week. The Jets have turned many heads this season and one loss is not a reason to panic about this young and hungry team. A new opportunity lies ahead this week against Buffalo and although it will be a tough task it's time to put this game in the back of our minds and move onto Buffalo.
