It's finally here, the Yankees are back in the postseason and are looking to make a statement. The Yanks open up the ALDS at home tonight against the Cleveland Guardians as they look to chase for 28.
It's been an eventful season for the Yanks after they won the AL East which nobody expected and won 99 games to go along with it. They started off the season really hot, hit a couple of obstacles, then bounced back and are now sitting in the playoffs nicely.
The past 5 years of Yankee playoff baseball has not been eventful as the Yanks just continue to lose in heartbreaking fashion each and every year. This year they are looking to write a new chapter and not be the same Yankee team of the last 5 years and actually do something this year.
Like every year, they've been riddled by injuries, but this year it has hit especially hard on their bullpen. Almost half the arms they started with on opening day are hurt and are not going to pitch in the ALDS which is a huge blow to late game situations.
We need the bats to pick up right where they left off to end the season, hot. They hit the most homers in the league almost every year for a reason and they need to continue this in the postseason if they want to have any shot at advancing.
Gerrit Cole makes his first playoff start in the Bronx tonight and if he can start to learn from some of his mistakes and not give up the long ball as often, we will be seeing prime Gerrit Cole and then hopefully the rest of the rotation can follow suit right after him.
After a long, successful regular season, can the Yanks finally have a successful postseason and get banner 28 in the Bronx? I believe this team is capable of going to the promise land as long as they don't beat themselves. Go Yankees and the chase for 28 is officially on.
