My Take on the Jets Current QB Situation

As we all know, the Jets have lacked a good quarterback for years and it is a major part of the reason why they haven't made the playoffs in over a decade. To make the playoffs and succeed in them, you need a good quarterback at the helm of your offense.

Currently, the Jets do not have that quarterback on the roster in Mike White and Zach Wilson. It is time to spend big because the Jets are a quarterback away from making the playoffs. They have some options, but the best option for the Jets is to trade for Lamar Jackson.

Jackson has expressed his concerns with the Ravens and did not accept their offer of an extension in the preseason, so it seems like his time in Baltimore is coming to an end. The Jets would be the perfect destination for him with a solid wide receiver and tight end core and a stacked backfield.

Lamar has proven himself to be a top 10 quarterback in the NFL, and doing it all without many weapons to throw the ball to. On the Jets he would have guys like Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, Breece Hall all at his disposal when on the Ravens, he did not really have anybody.

The cons of trading for Lamar Jackson is the cost. What price is a good price for a former MVP and top 10 quarterback in the league. The Ravens aren't dumb and are going to list Lamar at a high price. If you look at the most recent quarterback trades in the NFL with Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson, the Browns and Seahawks got a hefty return for their former star quarterbacks. So it is going to take a lot to get Lamar Jackson.

Now although acquiring Lamar Jackson is the best route for the Jets to take, it is not the only route. Their second best route is to sign Derek Carr in free agency. Carr is officially done with the Raiders after nine seasons and has been a solid quarterback in his nine seasons in the NFL. Comparing him with Lamar, he comes nowhere near close, but he is still a good quarterback to have.

I think Carr is definitely a good second option to have and I also believe the Jets should not take a shot on drafting another quarterback. We have seen what has happened in the past with quarterbacks they have drafted and it has not turned out good.

At the end of the day, I think if the Jets don't end up either with either Carr or Jackson, they failed the offseason. The one major thing they need and one of the only things they need to improve on is the quarterback position and without acquiring one of these guys, they aren't going to get anyone better to fill the vacant slot. The Jets need to spend big and put their money on the table for Lamar Jackson or Derek Carr.
